KWENDERANA PARTNERSHIP GROUP FUNDRAISERS

Concert by Paisley Philharmonic Choir and Pupils from Williamwood High School Music Department on Sunday 2nd June at 7pm in Giffnock South Church. Tickets: Adults £6, Children £2 can be obtained from Fiona Gunning.

Afternoon Strawberry Tea in the large hall on Saturday 15th June from 2-4pm. Tickets £5 can be obtained from Fiona Gunning. Donations of home baking, unwanted gifts and books will be greatly appreciated.

Strathaven Choral Society, along with the Glasgow Symphony Orchestra, is having a concert on Saturday 15th June at 7.30pm in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Great Western Road. The concert is called Opera Gems, and music includes Boridon Polostvian Dances, Wagner Pilgrims Chorus, Verdi Scottish Refugees. Hospices of Hope –There will be a piano and cello recital on the 22nd of June, at 3pm, in Wellington Church on University Avenue in aid of Hospices of Hope. Tickets are £8 for over 16s and £4 for children. Anca and Quintin

17th – 19th May 2013, Scotland Street School will be transformed into a gallery and exhibition celebrating new and established artists from Scotland. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy and purchase some work from the finest artists the country has to offer and there will be an eclectic mix of paintings in many different styles. All of the participating artists are donating a percentage of sales in support of The Samaritans, so not only do you have the opportunity to buy some work from our finest artists you can also support a very worthwhile charity in Glasgow . High profile Scottish artists who will be exhibiting and selling their work include Terry Kirkwood, Aileen Wrennall, Lin Pattullo, Robert Kelsey, Peter Nardini, Greer Ralston and John Damari. Opening times are from 10am-5pm on 17th – 19th May 2013, Scotland Street Museum.

CONGREGATIONAL BOARD: There will be a meeting in the Session House on Wed 17^th April at 7.30. If anyone would like to join the Board, please contact Forbes Barron or Margaret Robertson in the first instance. There are 5 vacancies.

The ANNUAL ORGANISATIONS SERVICE AND SPRING PARADE is on Sunday 28^th April at 11am.

“There is Music all Around” The Spring Concert of the Williamwood Singers is on Thursday 25th April at 7.30p.m.in the Church. There will be the usual uplifting songs and solos, and our organist, Eoin Tonner will be playing trumpet .Tickets (£4,children £2)are on sale after this service in the large hall and can be got from Carole Lyons, Norah Gray or any member of the choir. Please come along and support our young singers. All proceeds go to the Church

THE CHURCH OF SCOTLAND OVERSEAS GROUP meets on Friday 19^th April at Renfield St Stephen’s (Bath Street, Glasgow) from 2pm―3.30pm. Mr. D. Woods is speaking on the Water and Irrigation Project in Malawi. Meetings are open to all. 

EASTWOOD CHORAL SINGERS AND EAST RENFREWSHIRE SCHOOLS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA will be performing John Rutter’s “Magnificat” and other classical pieces at Sherbrooke/St.Gilbert’s Church, Nithsdale Road, Pollokshields on Sunday 21st April at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £8 and £6 (concession and under 16). These are available from Eleanor Mackenzie (577 5926) Tickets are limited and it is advised that they are purchased prior to the concert. Come along and support the young musicians in the orchestra!

On 27^th April, The Williamwood Grade IV Pipe Band is holding a concert in the Church entitled “A Wee Bit of Everything” and featuring Highland Dancing and much more besides. For details, contact Andy Melvin (637 2161) or a member of the band.

THE BB PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION is holding a Race Night on Saturday 27 April at 8.00pm in Clarkston Scout Hall. This was a great night last year and is highly recommended. An orchestral concert, by the Glasgow Philharmonia will be held at the RCS on the 30th June at 7pm. Repertoire includes Shostakovich Festive Overture, Rachmaninov Symphonic Dances and a concerto played by a member of the orchestra. Conductor is Ross Gunning.

Events

Events have been running with the help of a dedicated small team of people for the past few years. Thank you to all those individuals who have been involved and have donated time, effort and goodies to these causes. However it is becoming increasingly difficult to continue running things with such a small team and also changing circumstances for those in that team.

Instead I would like to establish a pool of people so that we can work together with varying helpers and volunteers for functions when and where the need arises.

To this end I am having a quick meeting on Monday 15th April, in the annex (flat) at 7pm. we could maybe start to agree what events/functions we hope to run and who can maybe help in various ways at those events. If you could contribute in some way please let me know and/or just turn up on the 15th. Carole Lyons
